In Week One, 13 quarterbacks had a passer rating of 115.0 or greater, the most in almost any week in NFL history.
For the first time ever, two QBs had flawless passer evaluations (158.3) in a season opener, and among them was 22-year-old Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson, that also became the youngest player in NFL history to place a great score.
Deshaun Watson (23) had a huge Week One revival, despite losing to some last-gasp field goal in New Orleans, and many other players relatively new to the league impressed. Last year’s MVP Patrick Mahomes (23) continuing his success using a three-touchdown, 143.2 passer score opener.
Keeping that in mindwe asked long-time NFL quarterback Vince Young and former two-time Pro Bowler – who will be joining Neil Reynolds in studio this NFL Sunday, on Sky Sports Action in 5pm – which young QBs.
“Deshaun Watson was a lover of me because I was playing!
“I knew that he was a big fan of mine when he first won a National Championship [to get Clemson in January 2017] and explained my title [in his post-game address ]. I simply remember:”Vince Young” and ever since then, I’ve reached out to him.
“He knows a whole good deal of people I know, so each time that I get an opportunity to talk to him, I offer him my opinion about what.
“I’m very proud of him. I knew he had the talent, it’s just about fixing.
“I hope he just gets to the stage of telling [the Texans] exactly what he wants. That’s a sign of maturity and it has been earned by him.
“I hope he is telling them’I want the offensive line here, I need more plays with the platter’. I hope he continues to develop just like that as I watched Dak Prescott and how he’s increased and he’s been successful.
“I need Watson to be verbally showing his maturity at which he can manage more and it is what he wants. He deserves an offensive line that could protect him he does not have to operate as much and so he can play a bit longer than the majority of the guys who move around with the ball”
Young himself was tease and create plays his legs – just like Watson – and he asked him whether he noticed any similarities between both.
He explained:”Yeah. He’s a tiny bit better thrower than me I believe, but overall we’ve got a really similar game. He’s very true downfield, which makes a whole good deal of plays, he’s well-loved and a excellent leader of his group. The ball runs .
“He pulls off things that you never believed anyone could do.
“So I think we’ve got some similarities but I believe his chunk is a bit more precise than me because of the fact that he threw a small bit more than me rising up.
“I’m not faulting myself but he is a great guy, a excellent athlete so I am very proud of him.”
“Me and Me text and talk a lot so the principal thing that I say is:’I’m pleased with you. You stood all everybody and the hardship talking about you personally. Now you are in a role, you are currently making plays. You’re not using your legs, but using your arm what do they say?’
“I’ve been really proud of him so I simply tell him to continue doing the job behind the scenes and make certain to keep in your defensive coordinator’s ear and ask him a lot of questions -‘What do you believe a defense will attempt to do for this season or this match?’
“After you determine what you are likely to do and also the groundwork, ensure to ask him a lot of queries about anything the defense may pick up you could easily fix.
“Defensive men are so good – they pick up if you are rocking [in the point of scrimmage], they understand when you stop, you’re about to snap the ball. They pick up a lot of little detailed things which may help them jump off the ball react.”
Will Blackmon, 12-year NFL veteran, analyst and Super Bowl winner Sky Sports before mid-season, also gave us his thoughts after selecting him because his NFL Challenge captain at Week 38, on Jackson.
Blackmon stated:”I picked him captain last week due to the matchup. I were figuring things out and simply thought the Dolphins were not ready.
“However, I like him this season as right now, you can observe how confident he’s.
“Last year, when he was finally called the rookie at the close of the calendar year, he began becoming comfortable but once they exchanged away Joe Flacco and it is his team today he only looks so comfortable and he has so much support.
“He has the supporting cast in terms of receivers, he’s got a good running back in Mark Ingram plus he’s got a great defense and that’s a recipe for victory ”
Young told Sky Sports:”‘MVP’ and head coach Andy Reid are a match made in paradise.
“Mahomes has a solid arm plus Reid likes to throw the ball deep – enjoys a lot of deep moans. Mahomes gets the arm for this so I love that chemistry between them. I love watching both.”
Young:”I phoned him to win Rookie of the Year I am pleased to find out what happened together [Arizona scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to procure a 27-27 tie with Detroit].”
Blackmon added with this year’s # 1 NFL Draft choice:”I think we saw a few maturation from Kyler Murray from the match. He did in the first half when it mattered, he gave them a chance and brought his team back.
“That is huge, to find that”
Young:”Allen did a terrific job of staying it [on Sunday since the Bills came back to beat the Jets]. I got the opportunity to meet with him a little while back so just to see the growth of a whole lot of these young guys, I am glad.”
“I’m still hoping to feel him out, but he has a huge chance [with those weapons].”
“I am prepared to observe the young man get his chance.”
