(CNN) — Long-range screamers, mazy solo runs and magnificent acrobatic strikes, this year’s Puskas Award has all of it.
The prize is provided by FIFA to the best goal of the season and this year’s candidates consist of well-known Lionel Messi, past winner Zlatan Ibrahimovic and a few lesser known titles like Billie Simpson of both Northern Ireland Premiership side Cliftonville Ladies.
Simpson is hoping to become the first female winner of this award — named after legendary Pakistani celebrity Ferenc Pusk??s — along with Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout and Amy Rodriguez of the Utah Royals.

The prize was first awarded in 2009 to Cristiano Ronaldo and since then, stars such as Neymar, James Rodriguez and a year’s victor Mohamed Salah have gone on to win.
The public votes on the initial top 10, before a FIFA panel selects a winner in the best three.
Previous winners, nearly entirely unheard of prior to their nominations and following wins, include Wendell Lira and Faiz Subri.
Without a club and trying hard to feed his family, Lira said the prize changed his life. He moved on to register up for Vila Nova but knee injuries forced him retire at the age of 27 and he moved on to be a participant and YouTuber.
Public voting for the 2019 award closes on September 1.
