SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — June 24, 2019 — NBC Sports Bay Area announced today that Katie Humann of Adams Middle School in Brentwood, Calif. is the winner of the 2019 All-Star Teacher Award, presented by Provident Credit Union.
Humann was given $20,000 for the college. In addition, every All-Star Teacher Award runner-up will receive $2,000 for his/her school.
In its 13th year, the All-Star Teacher Award recognizes middle and higher school instructors in Northern and Central California because of their outstanding dedication to their students and significant presence within their communities. An esteemed panel of judges selected this year’s finalists based on four categories: Overall Commitment; Excellence in Teaching; Rapport with Students; and Level of Distinction. This year’s five finalists are: Marquel Coats, Greenleaf TK-8 (Oakland), Awele Makeba, Skyline High School (Oakland), Bill Schrier, Carmel High School (Carmel), Matt Tate, Sierra High School (Manteca) and 2019 All-Star Teacher Katie Humann.
Since its beginning in 2007, the All-Star Teacher Award program has donated funds to public colleges in Northern and Central California. For the ninth consecutive year, NBC Sports Bay Area has awakened with Provident Credit Union to award the winning teacher’s school $20,000, up from $10,000 in previous years.
This year’s elite panel of judges includes Doug Bartlett, Senior Marketing Director, BART; Benito Delgado-Olson, Executive Director and Founder, SupplyBank.org; John Haggarty, VP Marketing of Provident Credit Union; Lorena Hernandez, Director of Community Investment, Comcast California; Detra Paige, Director of Community Relations, Oakland Athletics; and Sue Petersen, Executive Director of the Giants Community Fund.
