Ian McCall was supposed to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but unfortunately had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast this Sunday to talk about his most recent injury. Injury that forced him out of Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear in my bicep. I mean I’m literally in the physicians now speaking about it. It is exactly what it is, we train hard and I am fragile apparently. I must pull from a good deal of s**t. It stinks, but if you train as hard as I do and you have been doing so as long as I do, its part of the game” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession was only been plagued with injuries and it’s frustrating. This is my main source of income, I still have other things I do however, that is my main source. I’ve got a little girl to feed, that I feed my own and it sucks. However, on another note, this really is my passion; this is what I really like to do. I am 31 years old, I’m not getting younger I’ve been in fights for 13 decades. To watch my body neglect me time and time again it’s hard. It is one of those things it makes you wonder a lot. I’m such a healthy person, my loved ones is like amazingly healthy, and you know my daughter really needs a really strict diet. I have had my hip, groin tear, that is awful. I am sure I’ll need to get a hip replacement . I have had three hand surgeries. I got into an automobile crash not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It’s always something, but it is better than having an actual job.” Getting Positive and Optimistic”A lot of my life I’ve been a pessimist to become honest. I look at it in various ways, it might be worse, I might be dead. I might have lost full use of my arm or anything. There are a lot of things I look at. I have to maintain a positive attitude because I have to be a fantastic role model for team-mates and my little one. It’s one of those things I am not going to sit around and sulk. That’s what it is, I will be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II at UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I believe that today he has found a bit more power in his punches. His overall game is always changing and getting better. I think he will conquer Dodson, is he likely to finish [him]? I don’t know. I believe this will be one guy he will have a hard time completing. He finished Horoguchi with one second left, as far as I wish to beat his face , he’s incredible. He’s the exact man you want as champion in regards to performance. I’m likely to go together this one for sure.” Loss to John Lineker”Oh man that was enormous. I got too emotional; I revealed the very first round that I could definitely overcome him. People were like’Oh he is a bantamweight’ I don’t care; the guy still is not very good I should have overcome him. I think I showed that you are not going to knock me out even though you’re a big puncher. My face is going to split open before you knock me out and that is exactly what happened. With me it’s outside things, they constantly distract me, girl problems or what have you. I just kind of dropped after that round. I am smart enough to know that I was going to drop that struggle sitting . Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hello and I’m just kind of love, I’m screwed. This was a mental thing, that has always been my main downfall. I have a new mental coach, he’s my thoughts Sherpa. He is overall made me a much better individual. As far as goes, he is a big part of it” Feeling Overlooked in Flyweight Division”I would not say overlooked, there is other people to discuss. I blew it with John; I screwed up in this struggle. So perhaps I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let us state this harm is just 6 months, they will talk about me after that, that is alright. There are other people who deserve it. Regardless of how good I could be or how good I am, it’s not my turn. DJ needs people to fight, the branch needs people to shake and move and create a big jolt. I do not mind it, it is cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as a single father”Yeah it’s not simple; realistically I don’t know anything about girls. I understand how to get one in mattress that is about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what is happening?’ Do not cut your own hair, don’t put soap in places, like I do not know. Realistically I’ve a lot help, I live with my father. My father got a divorce, he explained move in, and I’ll assist you. My dad’s retired so he kind of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mother is still around; my daughter’s grandma is around so that I do have a great deal of help. So I am not going to say I’m doing so alone, because I am not. It requires a village to raise a kid and I got a village of people around me. Even though there are times where I have to take her to the gym, there’s always someone there. She is pretty damn independent I can take her to the beach; she can run around and swim on her own. She is going to be alright.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design firm; the only fighters I hang out with are people I am forced to hang out with or my buddies. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and stuff. They are hideous, such as Jose Aldo said we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The equipment is really comfortable; clearly Reebok creates a great item. I really don’t know who made the layout, no matter what generation we are in 80’s 90’s, that doesn’t fit anything, it’s just ugly. But perhaps I’m wrong; perhaps I’m looking for something a bit cooler looking. Its performance based equipment; that is all that matters. It’s an evolution of the sport. We needed it to shine, sure we’re not likely to get paid that much cash but it is what it is. In case you’ve got a problem then quit, these are the amounts we have to deal with. If you are smart and you are able to market yourself and promote yourself in ways like I’ve. I have external patrons; I’ve Layrite, that is similar to a hair and mustache product. I have got a great deal of clothing and lifestyle businesses. I receive a good deal of exposure from materials like that. People will need to know to step away from the boxmake money for themselves and have a smart agent.” Thoughts on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at the same time they operate a business. They operate a multi-billion dollar corporation that is a premiere sports league. If you find the machine that is your UFC, from the inside it is incredible. The people are excellent; the company design is simply amazing. I would never say anything bad about how it’s all operate, it’s beautiful if you enjoy company. The thing is they did not have to consult with us since it’s their business. We’re a commodity; as much as I wish to say cool we ought to be making money such as baseball, soccer and basketball. Since we should we’re really putting our lives at stake. But we’re not and I don’t want to estimate Urijah Faber, he said’I never got into this for the money’ honestly I get it, I am a businessman.” Outside sponsors”Financially I’m always going to be ok. I am always going to find ways [to make money]. I have part of a social media company, I have a show that I host called Direct Endorsement, also it is a big charity matter. I have other stuff that’s likely to make me money, therefore I will be fine. I really do feel for guys that don’t have much else or guys that aren’t that smart. But that is their own fault, figure out it it’s not rocket science” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” show”Yeah I was talking to Joe not too long ago. I’ve a developing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we always talk about it but it is a tiny bit of a drive out of my house with all the visitors. I’ll be up there soon, I have to do some stuff in the area so that I’ll be on there shortly.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma along with his host DirectEndorcements.com.
