Gennadiy Golovkin will have”the border” taken off him this weekend’s”scrap” with Sergiy Derevyanchenko, predicts his rival Billy Joe Saunders.
Golovkin, 37, will regain the vacant IBF middleweight title against Derevyanchenko on Saturday night live on Sky Sports Action, however Saunders believes success will come at a price tag.
“it is a battle which, you could say, won’t be skilful. It’ll be a scrap,” Saunders told Sky Sports.
“This battle isn’t about standing back , ping ping ping. This will be crash, bang, wallop.
“It will be over quickly. Whoever the winner, it’ll be a war.
“This really is a struggle for Golovkin that will take the edge off him. It will put a bit more age .”
When the important belts were Golovkin’s unbeaten Saunders maintained the WBO middleweight championship, but a fight never materialised.
Saunders, today the WBO super-middleweight champion, has since linked up with promoter Eddie Hearn and stated at the time”I would fight Golovkin at whatever weight he desires. I could show people he could be beaten by me and out-box. I really can do a much better job than Saul’Canelo’ Alvarez.”
The only career defeat of golovkin arrived following a draw in their first fight year, to Canelo.
Saunders has identified Canelo, who fights Sergey Kovalev on November two, as his dream fight for May’s Mexican vacation.
“I’d enjoy destroying Cinco de Mayo for the Mexican enthusiasts,” Saunders explained.
Following 19, the Golovkin of kazakhstan is working together with promoter Hearn, who sees him in fights.
Hearn explained:”You’ve got Demetrius Andrade. I’d love Demetrius Andrade to combat Canelo or Golovkin. We’ve got Saunders at 168 [lbs]. Has the ability to return down to 160 [lbs ]. Danny Jacobs is battling 168, but could still make 160. If those men want to go up, you have got Callum Smith.
“I believe the secret in 2020 will get each of those struggles made. I’d really like to watch Golovkin and Canelo, but ultimately Canelo will decide who he struggles, and at the moment, Golovkin is not on this list frustratingly for us”
