Philadelphia is hanging around the playoff rope for dear life and they desperately need a series divide. Can the Phillies get it against the team going?
This really is a last of a chain between those NL East competitions. In fact, that’s only partly true though these groups are playing each other. The division race is essentially over with Atlanta having 15 games and having an eight-game cause the loss column over Washington. While a devastating Braves collapse wouldn’t be unprecedented in baseball history, viewing they are 23-4 because Aug. 17th, that looks unlikely.
Philadelphia is one of five NL teams seeking to catch and transcend a Chicago Cubs group for the Wild Card slot. They are not playing from Atlanta, but rather against themselves and attempting to keep winning.
