Hit her first Grand Slam semi-final and the Belinda Bencic of switzerland place friendship aside to overcome Croatia’s Donna Vekic at the US Open.
Even the 13th seed, that knocked out defending winner Naomi Osaka from the preceding round, won 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 against her good friend.
She’ll confront Bianca Andreescu or Elise Mertens next.
The 22-year-old will return to the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time in more than three decades.

“I dreamed of the like a little kid so I’m here I am really loving it,” said Bencic, that finished a five-year wait to improve her previous best Grand Slam showing of a US Open quarter-final.
Bencic, who was knocked out of the French Open from Vekic at May, got the better of her spouse that was hitting this time round in a match filled with baseline rallies.
Vekic, 23, had her opportunity in the first group, in which she broke into the ninth game but didn’t serve it with it finally going to some tie-break, which Bencic took control of.
The Swiss broke twice in the next group, when Vekic hit a forehand wide sealing success on her third match point.
The group shared a warm embrace and Bencic was convinced their friendship would survive.
“We are both able to be friends from the court and aggressive on the court,” Bencic said. “I think we did well. I’m sure off the court we are friends still.”
