Even the 2019-20 NHL season is right around the corner, and the two puck bettors and sportsbooks are eagerly awaiting the official puck fall of the new campaign when the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues along with Washington Capitals kick things off on October 2. Chances are released to make or miss the playoffs this season if you’re looking for a different type of futures prop.
In BetOnline, the Tampa Bay Lightning will be the most bizarre chalk to make the drama at -500, with the Toronto Maple Leafs (-350), Vegas Golden Knights (-350), Colorado Avalanche (-300) and Boston Bruins (-300) right behind them.
If it comes to clubs that oddsmakers are giving the longest shot to visit the postseason, the Ottawa Senators (+625), Detroit Red Wings (+375), Los Angeles Kings (+275), Anaheim Ducks (+275) and Buffalo Sabres (+180) tabbed as likely to get to the promised land.
Value-wise, I am all over the Chicago Blackhawks to contact the playoffs in their current EVEN chances. I think the’Hawks have been undervalued due to their couple of seasons that are underwhelming, but also the offseaon free agent signing up of Robin Lehner could work amazing things for their postseason hopes.??
Lehner was a Vezina Trophy candidate at his only season with the New York Islanders and is set to connect a Blackhawks team that has had no trouble scoring goals but have??struggled to keep the puck. Corey Crawford’s best days are clearly behind him, so I believe Chicago could be in for a significant season, if Lehner can coast up things in between the pipes.
Talking of the Islanders, BetOnline is high on New York to produce the playoffs. But at their +115 cost to overlook the postseason, I am more than comfortable to back them in the number. The Islanders would be the surprise team of the 2018-19 year, but without Lehner in the fold, I expect some regression on Long Island.
